Reader Request: Bridesmaid Cardigans

Last week I got an email from Julie, who needs help finding some cardigans for her bridesmaids to wear in an outdoor wedding in Kansas next April.  She needs a wide array of sizes, and wants something vintage inspired in a neutral color to go with the Alfred Sung dresses she has her eye on for her wedding party:
As a cardigan afficionado, I was excited to e-shop for Julie and her friends, but I will admit this was really hard!  Cardigans are generally a casual item, and the usual long length won't work with dresses. Also, many lines do not come in a wide size range, and 90% of things made for wedding parties are ugly.  That is a fact.  However, here are my top picks for Julie's bridesmaids:

I think any of these could be jazzed up with a fun brooch or jeweled buttons, and will work on a variety of body shapes.  Cropped cardigans are tricky for ladies with a large bust, but I think wearing them open over a dress will keep anyone from looking top heavy.  Good luck, Julie!!

  1. Great picks. I love that last one...for myself! For the bridesmaids I think one of the first two maybe.

  3. I like that first ruffly gray one from bluefly. My bridesmaids dresses were similar and one of my girls wore a sweater like that one for the reception and it looked really cute. And I love the last one for myself too :) haha

  4. I love the grey Anthropolgie one! Very feminine and "good girlish!" Maybe she could change to little pearl buttons for a bit of extra "romance." :)

  5. Really great picks. Love the first one but maybe in another color to go with the blue dresses. Also love the anthropologie ones!

  7. I like the ruffled gray one from Bluefly and the Anthro one. I might suggest not really going with the tiny shrunken shrug because it doesn't look great on everyone. For instance, if the bridesmaids have a small chest, it would look great, but if you have a large chest like I do, a small shrunken shrug looks really shrunken and just accesntuates a large bust. Buttons are a nice option in case it is windy, too.
