Designer Crush: Michael Penney

I love stumbling across the work of decorators who create livable rooms with pieces that anyone could find (or mimic).  While I appreciate the beauty of the handcrafted $8,000 settee, it's not realistic for most of us to buy one of those instead of paying off our cars.  As I've said before, my favorite designer in this realm is Emily Henderson, but I recently discovered someone new thanks to my favorite Canadian design magazine, House & Home.

The slightly traditional side of me is loving what Michael Penney does with a practical budget and DIY skills.  His rooms aren't stuffy or boring, and put a fun spin on traditional decor.  You can also follow Michael's blog and submit questions for him (even if you aren't Canadian).

I also admired Michael's house in my last issue of H&H, and you can watch the video tour here. I can't find any good pictures online, so I had to scan:

I am now on the hunt for that Hollyhock fabric for my own dining chairs, but I can't find it anywhere.  Help please?

So, is there a certain celebrity designer you admire?  Let me know - I'd love to check them out!

P.S. I'd like to extend a huge thank you to the fabulous Carly of Thirty Something Fashion.  I won her Stella & Dot giveaway, and am the proud owner of a pair of fabulous new earrings.  Look for them to be starring in a Polyvore set or two very soon!

  1. His work looks amazing! I love Stephen Shubel's own home and his Parisian loft... (they are both on his website). Congrats on the earrings... they will be so pretty on you! xo
