Effortless Updos That I Can't Do.

I am both blessed and cursed with ridiculously thick, straight hair.  It looks good with minimal effort and strangers touch it in elevators (on multiple occasions).  However, it is so heavy that almost all of the cute, effortless updos that I love will not stay put without serious pins, if at all.

I long to be able to put my hair up into cute styles like these and head off to work:

I have tried and failed at recreating all of these styles, especially since bobby pins can't hold the weight of my hair and tend to slide out.   However, I refuse to give up.  I'm asking you, internet, is there any casual updo that works for those of us with super thick hair?   I've tried sock buns, spin pins, and everything in between... perhaps what I need most is practice?
