After many weeks without, I'm happy to say that I have a reader request post to share this morning. Unfortunately, it's one I received from a friend via Facebook and forgot about for a couple of weeks (sorry Kate!) but I'm back this morning with some solutions.
Kate is looking to help her sister purchase a nice piece of luggage now that she has graduated college. She doesn't want to spend more than $300 or so, and wants a medium size bag with wheels. I did some shopping online and was really surprised and how much of a selection there is! It makes me wish I'd not purchased my own red Samonsite spinner on clearance at Ross without any thought on the matter.
Here are a few of my favorite options:
I think my favorite pieces are the printed DVF bags, especially since I have a small charcoal gray DVF garment bag that has held up beautifully. However, the prints may get ruined if they'll be subject to airport baggage handlers.
The charcoal Kenneth Cole bag is elegant, with lots of pockets, and doesn't look so much like other suitcases that it's likely to be carted off by someone else on accident. (That happened to me on a business trip once. I did a Home Alone style run through the airport trying to catch the mulleted man about to be in for a rude awakening when he got to his destination). For an airline traveler, I think I would pick this bag or a hard sided Samonsite spinner. I love having 4 wheels on my bag and pushing all my things in a big stack through the airport without much effort.
In addition to a nice suitcase, I also love traveling with a big leather tote, a big soft scarf, and sunglasses. I recently scored a great soft leather tote at Banana Republic for $42 (go in store!) and can't wait to replace my old canvas one on my next trip.
Hopefully this was helpful for Kate (and you!). If you have a shopping dilemma, send me an email and I'll be happy to help!
