Happy New Year, internet! My little holiday break ended up being a bit longer than I planned, but it was much needed and I was actually able to put the iPhone down and enjoy being in the moment with my husband, family (human and canine) and friends.
Every year I use this blog to document my resolutions, since I think setting goals is important, even if it ends in an exercise in identifying the reasons why you didn't meet them. Since my life is about to change in a big way, I wanted to take a few minutes and document what I want to achieve on and offline in 2014:
Let People Help Me
I'm one of those really organized people who likes her house to look a certain way, and when something needs doing I prefer to get it out of the way as soon as possible. I know that having a newborn is going to rock my world, and that I cannot possibly do everything myself. I'm going to have to ask for help, and accept that not everyone will do something like I do. This will be difficult.
Keep Reading Books
I love reading - more than the internet and pretty much any other hobby. My free time is about to decrease drastically, but I want to revive my book club (eventually) and make time for novels even if it's only 15 minutes per day. It makes me a more interesting person to talk to, and will probably go a long way in helping me avoid feeling lonely when I'm on maternity leave.
Make Healthy Choices Post-Baby
I do not think that I will magically lose my baby weight immediately after delivery - I am not delusional or the Duchess of Cambridge. I know that it's going to be hard to find time to be active, and that convenience food will be an attractive option (let's be honest - it already is!), but I have worked too hard to get in shape and build a wardrobe and I plan to make an effort to eat well and make progress... even if it's slow going.
Don't Completely Abandon Cardigan Junkie
I'm already tempted to walk away from blogging, and it's hard to watch something you worked hard to build (virtually) waste away because I don't have time to create 5 posts per week or be nearly as prolific as the other blogs in your Feedly. I also get annoyed by the constant promotion and sponsored content (I do not believe that a dozen high-profile bloggers suddenly got inspired to buy cheap fleece at Old Navy and post multiple Instagram pics in the same week), but in a way it has inspired me to keep going because I would like to believe that I'm contributing something worth reading most days. I may not be able to do it as often as I'd like, but I hope to keep this little blog going in some way until I have more time for it.
That last item leads me to this...
Would anyone with a similar blog be interested in supplying some content while I'm in the throes of new motherhood? It doesn't all have to be brand new, and you are welcome to share something you've prepared for your own readers. I'd like to add a few recurring faces, and you'll get space on the sidebar too. If you're interested, please let me know and we can chat!
